Women around the world use different forms of contraception to prevent them from becoming pregnant. Hormonal contraceptive methods have proven to be very effective in preventing pregnancy in women. Among the three methods, oral contraceptive pills are the most popular of all. These pills consist of artificial female hormones, and based on the hormones present, are divided into combination pills and mini pills. The combination pills are those which consist of two artificial female hormones of oestrogen and progestogen. The mini pills, on the other hand, consist of only one female hormone of progestogen.

What is Yasmin?

Yasmin contraceptive pills are the most popularly used combination pill, and have been proven to be almost 100% effective in preventing pregnancy. The pills consist of ethinylestradiol (artificial oestrogen) and drospirenone (artificial progestogen) as the active ingredients. This pill also helps in reducing the symptoms of PMS and water retention, acne and does not allow weight gain, which is often experienced as a side effect of some other contraceptive pills. You are required to take one Yasmin contraceptive pill for up to 21 days of the 28 day menstrual cycle, with a break of 7 days, during which you are likely to experience withdrawal bleeding.

What is Cerazette?

The Cerazette pill is a popular and commonly used mini pill, and has been proven to be almost 99% effective in protecting women against pregnancy. It is the only mini pill which prevents ovulation from occurring as a way of preventing pregnancy. Just like other mini pills, it also thickens the cervical mucus so as to prevent a sperm from entering and fertilizing an egg, and alters the womb lining so as to prevent an egg, if produced and fertilized, from attaching and growing further. The absence of oestrogen in Cerazette pills makes it a good option for women who are allergic to oestrogen.

What is Dianette?

Dianette is also a popular and commonly used combination pill, which has been proven to be almost 100% effective in preventing women from getting pregnant. It consists of ethinylestradiol (artificial oestrogen) and cyproterone acetate (artificial progestogen) as its active ingredients. This pill works by tricking your body into believing that ovulation has already occurred so as to prevent production of an egg. You are required to take this pill for up to 21 days of your menstrual cycle, with a break of 7 days in between, during which you are likely to have a withdrawal bleed. You can buy Dianette with a doctor’s prescription through any of the registered online clinics.

What is Femodene ED?

Femodene ED is a monophasic combination pill, which consists of ethinylestradiol (synthetic oestrogen) and gestodene (synthetic progestogen) as its active ingredient. You are required to take this pill for all 28 days of your menstrual cycle. Of the 28 pills, 21 pills are active, while the remaining 7 are inactive, and so you are not required to stop taking the medication for 7 days in between. You are likely to have a withdrawal bleed while you are taking the inactive pills. The pill is said to be most effective if it is taken on the very first day of your period.
