Warning: The following post contains spoilers for Game of Thrones season 8 episode 4, “The Last of the Starks.”
• Hafþór Júlíus Björnsson, aka The Mountain on Game of Thrones, apologized to actress Nathalie Emmanuel for killing her character, Missandei, on the HBO series.
• The Mountain beheads Missandei at the end of season 8, episode 4.
• In an Instagram post, Björnsson blamed it all on Cersei.
At the end of Game of Thrones‘ latest episode, The Mountain—or rather, The Mountain’s hulking reanimated corpse—beheads Daenery’s beloved advisor Missandei atop the walls of King’s Landing. On the show, The Mountain swings that sword without a second thought, but in real life, the actor who plays him feels kinda bad about it.
In a funny Instagram post, Icelandic strongman (and current World’s Strongest Man) Hafþór Júlíus Björnsson apologized to Missandei actress Nathalie Emmanuel for the whole decapitation thing.
Björnsson shared a photo of him with his arm around Emmanuel, and in the caption, wrote: “So sorry. Cersei made me do it. Hope we’re cool! 😬”
Damn, who knew there was a sense of humor hiding inside that 8-foot-tall sorta-dead tower of muscle?
Emmanuel addressed her character’s death in Instagram post the day after the episode aired, writing that playing Missandei has been one of her “greatest joys.”
“The quiet and kind translator,” she said of Missandei. “A brilliant woman who overcame so much suffering and found herself, her voice… and her one and only love. She represented so much for me, personally, that I have no choice but to carry the things she has taught me into my life going forward.”
She went on to thank Emilia Clarke, who plays Dany, and Jacob Anderson, who plays her Unsullied BF, Grey Worm.
“I know last night was pretty intense for some of you so I invite you to participate in my fantasy where I like to think that, right now…. Missandei is sipping a rum on a beach somwhere in sky 😂… 🍹🌴,” she wrote.
Yep, we can see it.
