Got headaches? This hand reflexology sequence could help

Reflexologist Michele Stevens shows us how to use hand reflexology to help a headaches

Reflexology – or zone therapy – has been used for centuries to help with aches and pains. It’s believed by some that each area of the hand and feet is linked with other areas of the body – meaning by adding pressure to specific zones you can help relieve tension and aches in other areas of the body. Sounds like magic to me.

These techniques which originate from China and involve the ten vertical zones of the body are an alternative to traditional medications and treatments. Below is a video tutorial on how to use reflexology to help with those headaches you just can’t seem to get rid of, and clear instructions on how you can do reflexology yourself.

Michele Stevens advises us follow the same order as presented in this particular sequence.

#1 Pituitary

Firstly, using the thumb of the other hand press and circle this point for a few seconds.

The pituitary gland is found at the base of the brain and is often referred to as the ‘master gland’ of the body. This gland produces many hormones and is responsible for releasing hormones that stimulate the adrenal glands, the thyroid glands, the ovaries and even the testes. If you do often, it is said to help with pain relief.

#2 Head/Brain

Then, using the thumb of the other hand work across the palm of your hands 3 times. Working this point helps calm the mind and clear the head.

#3 Diaphragm

Using the thumb of the other hand work across the palm of your hands 3 times. Working this point helps to release tension held in the whole body.

#4 Spine

Next, using the thumb of the other hand working this area three times to release tension and ease discomfort. Working any areas that are sensitive can help to reduce pain, tension or muscle spasms in the neck and shoulders, which can often be a cause of headaches.

#6 Solar Plexus

Finally, using the thumb of the other hand press and circle this point and take deep breaths while working this point. Taking deep breaths helps with relaxation and helps with settling the mind and body.
