Diabetes and heart disease finger prick text

People with diabetes have a high risk for developing cardiovascular disease, but they can improve their odds by following a better lifestyle. A recent study in the New England Journal of Medicine showed that if patients with type 2 diabetes kept these risk factors under control they had little or no increased risk for heart attacks or stroke compared to the general population.

These risk factors were elevated hemoglobin A1c, smoking, elevated LDL cholesterol, high blood pressure and albumin in the urine. This study is good news for diabetics and it shows the benefits of maintaining a healthy life style.
